Before tossing your UDPP...

OK, so I've been on the verge of running out on my Urban Decay Primer Potion this last week.... or at least, so I thought!
I actually did toss the tube in the kitchen bin, only to return a few moments later and pick it up. I then pulled out the largest bread knife I could find in the kitchen drawer, and started to saw it open. It took me some time; but eventually the freakin' tube was finally cut open!

And voilá; this is what was left inside...

5 gram jar packed full...

I was shocked (no; SHOCKED!) to see how much product that was still in there...
Enough to pack a five gram jar full!!

Perhaps though, the people at Urban Decay have finally listened to their customers pleas to improve the packaging of the Primer Potion, as they have recently started rolling out this new and "improved" angled wand that's supposed to alleviate the aggravation of having well over half the product remaining in your tube, unreachable except via hacksaw...

I suppose it's a tiny bit of an improvement... but honestly, I can't understand why they can't just put it in a regular lip gloss tube or a squeeze bottle! I don't see this as much of a solution. I still think there will be a lot of product remaining in the tube...

How do you feel about Urban Decay's "solution"?

Don't forget to saw down at the bottom too, there's more to find! :D

I haven't tried the potion yet because I have heard negative things regarding the packaging. Why can't they use a squeezy tub. I don't like wands too much I like to use my fingers to really smooth primer out. You could of wasted a lot of product. That is terrible..

Hi Kajsa!
Too late I'm afraid; already taken out the garbage ;) I guess I was way too chocked to think about sawing the bottom off as well, bummer!

Hi Krista!
I don't like wands either. While UDPP is a great product, I will try out the Too Faced Shadow Insurance when I run out of this jar (which will take a while ;))
I like squeezy tubes as well, for the same reasons you describe ;)

I've not tried this product. But I'm not surprised. I've done this same thing(using the largest bread knife..lol)! To open a make up product that had a pump to use. It was a Revlon skin shimmer. Can't remember the exact name of product. This was a couple of years ago. That's when I had my SHOCK, of how much product was left. I agree with you. Companies like Urban Decay could find better ways to package their products. Glad you thought to open it up!

Hi Velvet!
It's outrageous, and one can assume that most people really do toss it, not knowing there's so much product left, which they have paid for but will never have the chance to use.. and so they go to the store and buy another one... and then another one...

OMG! That's a tremendous amount of product left. I imagine loads of people just toss it. I've read before about cutting it open. I never saw a picture though. That is really shocking. I don't use it just because of that. I also don't see how an angled wand will make much difference.

Hi Lucy!
Shocking indeed; no wonder UD sells so many of these, people run out of it so quickly ;)
I don't think that wand will make much difference either.

Wowser! I'm glad I'm not a makeup junkie - lol. I don't use this, but I know I would be ticked to realize how much was still left in there and the fact that I would have to saw the damn pkg open just to get it! :)

Hi Brooke!
Luckily there are substitutes out there ;)

I've never used this product before, but I wonder if it would help to store the container upside down? Perhaps the product is too thick to make much of a difference though. I like how clever you were to saw it open - you go girl!

Hi Robyn!
Good idea, but like you say, it's too thick to make a difference, though...
I have my clever moments occasionally.. ;)
